there’s a thomas rowe esq living in fitz in 1883 and 1885 which im guessing is right guy

would really love to see him listed on rate books in fitzroy? where is he living and is he always in carlton and fitzroy and can I rule out the regional and suburbs as the OTHER farmer
this should help me figure out the right press coverage for him and it also explains why its so hard to find a glorified obit of him given he was an ESQUIRE.

HIS FULL NAME!!!! – – it’s william thomas rowe!!!! – this gives me definitive full name for him marking him as esq

1890

ROWE.—On the 9th inst., at her late residence, Bristol-cottage, 209 Nicholson-street, Carlton, Elizabeth, relict of the late Thomas Rowe, Esq., J.P., aged 61 years.
source: “Family Notices” The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 – 1957) 11 January 1890: 1. Web. 4 Feb 2026 <http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article8583097>.

significance: there may be multiple thomas rowe’s but this one is listed as an esq and JP which links him specifically to being a councillor and former mayor AND this indicates he was dead by 1890 AND this indicates his wife was named ELIZABETH and living in carlton in 1890. thus safe to assume he alive 1885 (I would have to go back and recheck this source) where he is listed as esq in fitz and dead by 1890

1893

source: find a grave

This cannot be my thomas rowe since he was dead by 1890 but it is confusing because he was also married to an elizabeth
NOPE. this guy was a farmer in regional vic.

death of the farmer, whose mum was mary gibbings and dad was william rowe. this is NOT my thomas. The question is, who was this thomas married to and in what year? was it marriage to Elizabeth, maiden name Stretch?

IF this farmer married stretch = I can rule out their family line
IF this farmer did NOT marry stretch – then I know elizabeth stretch married the councillor.
